What is CommonName?
CommonName is an adware program that installs as a toolbar. CommonName is associated with commonname.com and is a variant of the CNBabe / BabeIE / BabeIE2 / CNMib family of parasites. CommonName was originally created to allow a user to enter a keyword into the browser and be directed to CommonName client websites, but the application has gradually mutated into adware. The CommonName toolbar will pop up advertisements on your computer, based on your web history. It will also hijack your web searches, and may constantly change your homepage to that of one of its affiliates. CommonName may also corrupt the Winsock LSP chain, drastically slowing down (or disabling) your Internet connection. Additionally, this application may produce system instability and trigger runtime errors in Internet Explorer. CommonName is bundled with many free programs, including Grokster and iMesh.
