What is SpySheriff?

SpySheriff is malware that disguises itself as an anti-spyware program, in order to trick the owner of the infected computer to buy the program, by repeatedly informing them of false threats to their system. SpySheriff often goes unnoticed by actual anti-spyware programs, and is difficult to remove from an infected computer.
SpySheriff is a system hijacker that secretly installs to victim PCs. SpySheriff causes the desktop to change and display a fake warning message that tricks users into installing the antispyware software. SpySheriff forbids access to some web sites and may even block any attempts to connect to the Internet. SpySheriff can also disable some Windows essential components and tools such as the System Restore and the Date and Time application.
Unlike other rogue anti-spyware, Spy Sheriff does not only display fake threat scan reports, it may also block your access to internet and hijack your web browser.

SpySheriff Threats:
Elevated risks are typically installed without adequate notice and consent, and may make unwanted changes to your system, such as reconfiguring your browser's homepage and search settings. These risks may install advertising-related add-ons, including toolbars and search bars, or insert advertising-related components into the Winsock Layered Service Provider chain. These new add-ons and components may block or redirect your preferred network connections, and can negatively impact your computer's performance and stability. Elevated risks may also collect, transmit, and share potentially sensitive data without adequate notice and consent.
